Breckinridge-Grayson Programs, Inc. began serving Breckinridge and Grayson Counties in 1965. Currently the agency offers Head Start services to 3 and 4 year old children and their families in either a center based or home based options. Additionally, Early Head Start services for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women are provided in center based and home based options. Both Early Head Start and Head Start are federally funded comprehensive service programs with the overall goal to have children and their families ready to transition to their next educational setting-school ready. The agency has two facilities. The main facility and offices are located in Grayson County at 201 E. Walnut Street, Leitchfield, Kentucky. The Leitchfield site houses 7 Head Start and 4 Early Head Start classrooms and offers transportation services for children age 2 and older. In Breckinridge County the agency offers Early Head Start via Home Based services and 1 Early Head Start Center Base Classroom, located at 228 Tulles Creek Rd. Hardinsburg, Kentucky, 40143.

The agency employees more than 80 staff in various positions including full-time, part-time, and variable positions.
Qualifications vary among positions. All employees regardless of position must have the minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Head Start teachers must have the minimum of an Associate in Applied Science for Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education. Early Head Start teachers must have the minimum of an Infant/Toddler CDA (Credential Child Development Associate). Head Start teacher associates must obtain a Preschool CDA within 2 years of employment. Bus drivers must be at least 21 years of age and have or be willing to attain a CDL.
Additionally, all employees must be able to pass the pre-employment criminal background and child abuse and neglect records check, the pre-employment drug screen, physical examination, and tuberculosis assessment. Employees must attend 15 hours of state-certified training annually including training in Kentucky’s Child Care Orientation and Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma.
